The Cartographer is your scholarly companion. Pick the perspective
they bring to your map.
The Detective
I read the map for what isn't drawn.
A pattern-hunter. Reads the map as a scene — looking for hidden
triangles, accidental clusters, parallel trajectories the
figures themselves probably didn't see.
The Historian
I am suspicious of any idea that doesn't come with a city, a date, and a quarrel.
A situated voice. Pulls abstractions back to the cities, dates,
journals, and quarrels where they happened. Distrusts grand
narratives and retroactive labels.
The Curator
The canon plus its forgotten neighbors is a truer map than the canon alone.
A finder-of-the-overlooked. Knows the figures the canon left
out and why they matter — the teacher, the correspondent, the
editor, the connoisseur's pick that reframes the map.
